The History of Entercard - text

Entercard Group has a rich history that dates back to 1997. The company was originally founded in Trondheim as Sparebank 1 Kredittkort AS in 1997, with the purpose of commercially issuing credit cards.

Entercard was then established in 2000.

In 2003, Swedbank bought the company. Two years later, in 2005, Swedbank founded Entercard as a joint venture together with Barclays Bank. The aim of the joint venture was to create a leading credit card business in the Nordic market.

Part of Swedbank’s Swedish card business was moved over to the new company, which kept the original name, Entercard.

In 2025, Swedbank acquired Barclays’ share of Entercard, becoming the company’s sole owner once again.

Swedbank has extensive knowledge and local presence in the Nordic market. This means that Entercard has access to our owners’ experience and expertise, while we at the same time remain a small, local and swift-footed company with full focus on credit cards and consumer loans.

Since 2005, Entercard has grown significantly. Today, we have over 450 employees in four locations: Stockholm, Oslo, Trondheim and Copenhagen, and our product portfolio has grown to include over 50 unique products. In addition to products, we also offer personal services and digital solutions through our customer service, netbank, and mobile apps.
